Opera Holland Park presents A Christmas Carol at Rackleys Barn, Buckinghamshire
Will Todd’s and David Simpatico's enchanting musical retelling of the much-loved 1848 novella 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. Weaves the melodies of traditional Victorian carols and the midwinter chimes of handbells through each episode of Dickens’s seasonal ghost story.
On 15 December 2025, usually reserved for private weddings and celebrations, audiences are invited to step into this beautifully restored country barn for a special evening of festive storytelling and music. Rackleys offers a magical setting in which to experience Charles Dickens’s timeless ghost story.
Scored for eight singers, piano, double bass, accordion, and actor, Todd’s score shimmers with handbell chimes and familiar Victorian carols woven through David Simpatico’s libretto and "captures the spirit of the tale perfectly" (Music OMH). Throughout the performance we meet Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future in this captivating musical journey that celebrates the warmth and spirit of the season.
The performance will be followed by a sparkling reception with canapés and the opportunity to mingle and raise a glass with the cast and creative team. This performance has limited capacity, offering guests a rare chance to enjoy the story up close. A perfect way to begin the Christmas festivities, early booking is strongly advised.
