Other Info: Will Todd's Requiem was commissioned in 2008 by The Fairhaven Singers for choir, soprano soloist and electric guitar. It was premiered at St John's College, Cambridge and received it's London premiere at St John's Smith Square. Subsequent virtuosic performances of this atmospheric work have taken place in the UK, Germany, Netherlands and the US. The electric guitar version of Requiem is available as a recording.
Requiem has recently been published in an organ version, edited and re-created by Ralph Woodward. This should make the programming of this beautiful work a little easier for choirs who are struggling to find an electric guitarist.
Ralph Woodward, conductor of The Fairhaven Singers, writes:
"This haunting work is both utterly original and eerily familiar, drawing on opera, folk music and plainsong for its inspiration, and revelling in the many gorgeous colours an electric guitar can conjure.”
"Will Todd is fast establishing himself as one of the UK's most sought-after, versatile composers. . . [Requiem is] his most impressive, well-structured, 'agonized-over' work to date . . . well worth many more performances from ambitious, enterprising choirs." Jill Barlow/ Tempo/ 2009
"an outstanding response to the text" Alan Bullard/ Choir & Organ/ 2010
