Other Info: Come Down O Love Divine is an arrangement of the Ralph Vaughan Williams' tune Down Ampney for SATB with piano (plus optional alto saxophone and bass parts) and was commissioned by Andrew Earis, for the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields, in 2010.
Come Down, O Love Divine has been recorded by The Wellensian Consort, conducted by Christopher Finch, and is included on the album Footprints .

The setting of Come down, O Love divine supplies some new harmonic moves to Vaughan Williams’ lovely tune Down Ampney, gradually adding vocal harmony through the verses, with a short descant section in the final verse.

This piece is now published by Boosey & Hawkes in the collection Three Jazz Hymns with Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence and God Is Love.

The Three Jazz Hymns can be performed using the supplied piano part or embellished using the chord symbols above. Double bass may also be used in addition to piano, again following the supplied chord symbols, and parts for optional jazz ensemble are available. Performers of these hymns should feel free to include the congregation or audience in imaginative ways.
