Welsh National Opera is thrilled to be returning to live performances later this month with a short run of Will Todd’s family opera, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In line with Welsh Government guidelines, this will be an outdoor performance held at Dyffryn Gardens in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Based on Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, the opera features the larger than life characters that Alice encounters during her journey in Wonderland. Welsh soprano Fflur Wyn performs the title role of the young girl who goes on a fantastic adventure, following a white rabbit, taking tea with a Mad Hatter, March Hare and sleepy dormouse and ultimately rescuing them from the grumpy Queen of Hearts and her henchmen Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

The production, originally created for Opera Holland Park in London, will take place on all sides of the audience and will move between two locations in the gardens of the beautiful National Trust property. With a limited capacity of 70 per performance, social distancing will be in place and the intimate atmosphere will make this a wonderful experience for families of all ages.

WNO Head of Artistic Management, Kathryn Joyce, said ‘We wanted to get back to performing live as soon as we could and, for an outdoor setting, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was the perfect choice. It’s the ideal opportunity for families to come and enjoy a wonderful performance together in a stunning setting.’
